When creating an import, use the same field names that appear under the Alternate Column Name headings in the data dictionary or import templates. This is very import because the import function automatically tries to match the data header in the CSV file to headers that appear in the drop-down menus in step 2 of the import process.

All import files must be saved as separate files in the CSV file format to be accepted by Course Evaluations.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Don't forget to delete any unused columns and rows in the CSV file before starting the import.
  • Look for missing data in required fields to prevent errors.
  • If the ID's or User Names have leading zero's DO NOT open the CSV file.  This will drop the zero's and cause the file to fail. See Leading Zero's Being Dropped in a CSV File.
  • For Faculty and Course Imports, make sure the naming of departments is consistent with the departments that already exist in the Course Evaluations database.  If the import can't get a match on a department name, it will consider it a new department and add it to the database.  Matching is case insensitive, so make sure the spelling is the same.
  • Please check the column headers to make sure that the import chose the correct header for the data.
