Faculty Role-based questions were designed to quickly assign people-based question categories to specific groups on a survey.  These roles include: Responsible and Participating Faculty, Teaching Assistants, and any other customized faculty role. The option appears on the Survey in the Display Options - Show/Hide Category Settings - Question Filters.


Role filters can be set in:

  • Question Manager
  • Survey Template Display Options
  • Survey Display Options


In the Display Options of the template or survey, the filters can be changed when a survey is created. If a selection is made, a funnel icon will display next to the category title. Hover over the icon to view the roles that are chosen for that Question Category.


NOTE: If no selection is made for any role, the system will apply the question category to all faculty roles on the survey.

Applying the Faculty Role Filter

When courses are added to surveys, people in the roles for the particular question category will automatically be checked. This is in contrast to course type, course designation, and department filters, which are applied when the survey is accessed.


The simplest use-case for this filter is assigning T/A’s for lab questions and Responsible Faculty for lecture questions.

  • Add a new role if needed in the Setup menu->User Roles
  • Set the role type for the Question Category in Question Manager
  • Set up the survey
  • Go to the Display Options on the survey
  • Click Show Hide Category Details for the category that is specific to the role
  • Select the role(s) that apply to the questions
  • Save
  • Go to the Detailed Settings, Question Category Settings to see how the questions were applied
  • Preview the survey
