If you have received a notification from the Course Evaluations team stating that the new survey taking experience has been activated for your Course Evaluations site, please read the following information to learn what to expect and what changes you may need to make.

Changes

  • New page for each change in course or instructor questions to enforce the focus of the questions (who or what are the questions about?)
  • Option to switch surveys to a single page and bypass pagination (this option is ignored if there is a question category with the option to select whom to evaluate)
  • Automatic saving at the end of each page
  • Confirmation popup dialog at the end of the survey is removed.
    • Save/submit options are now on the last page along with the survey close message.
  • All response choices for single select (radios) and multi-select (check-boxes) are listed vertically
  • If using the LMS dashboard, surveys are launched to a new tab instead of replacing the survey list
  • Submitted responses are saved to the database every 5-7 minutes.
    • Reminder: Statistics are calculated on a schedule that you can set in the Customize screen.
    • Longer waits between statistic calculations are suggested during heavy survey cycles.
  • If you are using the LMS Dashboard in your LMS, note that surveys always launch to a new tab instead of replacing the survey list.
  • Custom in-line HTML styles are not allowed with our new responsive surveys. This includes questions, responses, category instructions, intro, close, etc.

Your TO-DO List

  • Preview your surveys
    • If you have active, upcoming, or even past surveys it is imperative that you review how your configuration will appear in the new survey experience.
  • Check category order
    • If you have many question categories, you may need to change how they are ordered on the survey to take advantage of the pagination (e.g. all course questions on one page, all faculty questions on one page)
  • Verify HTML displays properly
    • If you have HTML encoded in your survey verify that it is rendered correctly.
    • If you need help reformatting (especially if you have tables, in-line styling for colors, etc.), please contact support for assistance.
  • Verify foreign languages display properly
    • If you are embedding foreign languages in your survey content (instructions, questions, responses, etc) please double check that everything is being displayed properly.
  • Check assessee selection
    • If you have enabled the option for users to select whom to assess, please pay attention
    • Question Category comments and pictures of evaluated individuals are readily visible, but the selections are now vertical.
  • LTI direct survey integration
    • If you are using LMS integration and launching surveys directly via LTI, the option will need to be changed to launch to a new tab.
    • This is important as your surveys will no longer work if they are embedded within the LMS
    • Please contact support if you are unsure how your LMS integration is set up.
